“Town addresses concerns about sewage vacuum truck in the Fallsview Municipal Park”

May 26, 2015

For immediate release

Robert Hobbs, Mayor of the Town of Bishop’s Falls, today addressed concerns in the community regarding the sewage vacuum truck that has been seen in the Fallsview Municipal Park.

Mayor Hobbs stated, “Council is in the process of upgrading three lift stations throughout the community.  To facilitate this project, the lift stations, which are critical components of our sewage system, had to be cleared of sewage so the pumps could be installed by the contractor.  The sewage in these lift stations was transferred to a manhole in the Fallsview Municipal Park.   To be clear, and this is an unfortunate situation that we are currently resolving through the $14 million dollar wastewater treatment project, the sewage would have ultimately reached the river whether it remained in the lift stations or was transferred to the manhole.”

The lift station upgrade project focuses on Hobbs Park, Riverside Drive, and Cobbs Lane.  This work will ensure the proper operation of critical aspects of the municipal sewage infrastructure.  The Town anticipates this project will be completed in the weeks to come, and no further use of the sewage vacuum truck is needed at this point.

“The Town of Bishop’s Falls recognizes how critically important it is to preserve the environmental integrity of the Exploits River.  Construction of the wastewater treatment facility, which will see an end to sewage being discharged into the river by the town, will be completed by the end of the summer.  This has been a goal of Council and the community for many years, and we are pleased to finally see it come to fruition”, says Mayor Hobbs.
