Did you know that many products labelled as “flushable” do not break down in the wastewater system the same way toilet paper does?  Sanitary wipes can remain intact after flushing, allowing them to accumulate in sewer lines, contribute to blockages, and clog lift station pumps.  These issues place unnecessary strain on the Town’s wastewater infrastructure and can lead to costly repairs, increased maintenance, and even residential sewer backups.  To help protect our wastewater system, residents are encouraged to limit their use of sanitary wipes and, when possible, dispose of them in the garbage.

Household cleaning products such as Swiffer pads, disinfecting wipes, baby wipes, paper towels, and similar products should never be flushed.  Unlike toilet paper, these items are not designed to break down in the wastewater system and can quickly cause serious blockages and equipment failures.  When it comes to your toilet, the rule is simple: only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed.  By making responsible disposal choices, we can all help keep the Town’s wastewater system operating safely and efficiently.
