Councillor Hooper was sworn in on March 19, 2024, to fill the vacant Councillor seat.

Councillor Barry Saunders (not pictured) served on the Town Council from October 7, 2021, until his sudden and sad passing on July 17, 2023.  Below you’ll find a statement that the Bishop’s Falls Town Council released on July 18, 2023.

“The Town of Bishop’s Falls is saddened to announce that a long-time Bishop’s Falls Town Council member, Councillor Barry Saunders, passed away on July 17, 2023. 

Councillor Saunders was first elected to the Town Council in 1997 and served approximately 22 years over six (6) terms.  During his time on Council, Councillor Saunders was a Chairperson or member of nearly every Standing Committee, including, among others, Finance, Public Works, Community Relations, and Recreation.  Most recently, he was Chairperson of the Community Relations Standing Committee and a member of the Finance Standing Committee.  There is no question that Councillor Saunders, devoted to his Council responsibilities until the end, positively impacted the community he loved so dearly. 

Mayor Bryan King added, “Barry was an exceptional Councillor, but he was a better friend.  I will always remember the many laughs and discussions we shared inside and outside Chambers.  I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside Barry for many years and witnessed firsthand his passion for the town.  He was always there to lend a hand and volunteer.  We will miss him dearly.  On behalf of the Bishop’s Falls Town Council, I send condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The Town will lower the flags at the Town Hall to half-mast today to honour Councillor Saunders’ memory and his contributions to the community.”

Meeting Schedule

Effective February 1, 2025

• Recreation Standing Committee Regular Meeting:  First Monday of each month @ 7:00 pm.

• Community Relations Standing Committee Regular Meeting:  First Wednesday of each month @ 7:00 pm.

• Public Works Standing Committee Regular Meeting:  Second Tuesday of each month @ 7:00 pm.

• Finance Standing Committee Regular Meeting:  Second Thursday of each month @ 7:00 pm.

• Regular Council Meeting:  Third Tuesday of each month @ 7:00 pm, except June, July, and August, when regular meetings begin at 6:00 pm.

Please note the following:

• Regular, special, and Standing Committee meetings are open to the public.  Certain parts of the meeting may be closed to the public in accordance with the Towns and Local Service Districts Act.  Meetings take place in Council’s Chambers at the Town Hall.

• To speak at a meeting, you must request a delegation in accordance with Council’s Rules of Procedures 2025.  See below.

• Standing Committee meetings are suspended during June, July, and August.  Chairpersons may call special meetings.

• Meetings are subject to change; therefore, you are encouraged to contact the Town Office (709 258 6581) to confirm a meeting date/time.
